ABOUT US

OUR HISTORY

Fifth Avenue Mentoring and Community Outreach Services (FAMCOS) Inc., is a not for profit organization founded in January 2013 by Deogory T. Harris. Mr. Harris believed that many youth in the local community lacked meaningful spiritual, academic and career guidance. Determined to make a difference, Deogory convened a series of church and community meetings, attended by prominent and influential community activist leaders, clergy and concerned parents. Deogory's goal was to assist the community in building relationships that empower people, encourage community service, and restore faith in the human spirit. Stepping out on faith, Deogory founded the Fifth Avenue Mentoring and Community Outreach Services Inc. as a not for profit IRS 501©(3) incorporation. Since unofficially opening its doors in 2013, FAMCOS has forged strong partnerships with local business community, school districts, and other youth-serving and social services organizations in the community. Mr. Harris, Executive Director, is humbled by the tremendous opportunity God has given him and looks forward to an enjoyable and blessed future with FAMCOS. The outstanding staff continue to carry out the FAMCOS vision and expand the scope of program services.

OUR VISION

OUR MISSION

FAMCOS Inc. envisions a community in which every youth can experience nurturing relationships with their parents/guardians, engaged and responsible community leaders. We contend that this will allow each youth to develop individually into their full potential, and become productive members in our society.

FAMCOS, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable purposes, more specifically designed to provide faith-based mentoring and tutoring services in the local community and beyond. FAMCOS empowers the community to support at-risk individuals, families and youth by helping them to make positive life choices that enables them to maximize their personal, financial and spiritual potential.

What are the Five Avenues of Service?

The first avenue we pursue on our Journey to their destination is God.  We are a faith-based organization and God is always first in our approach, our interaction, and our relationships with individuals, youth and their families. He is the center force field and our core values of what we stand for,  what we believe, and what we practice.

The second avenue is simply via our magnificent Mentors. Our team members have been trained to build long lasting Godly relationships with all individuals  to assist them in improving their lives and become productive citizens.

The third avenue is Education. Our mentors encourage education to our mentees from a broad perspective to include academics, social/economic interest, and wellness in terms of body, mind, and spirit.

The fourth avenue is Family.  We as an organization realize that we must build strong relationships with family members and offer them community services to help augment the mentoring relationship with their children. Statistics show that when family members are involved, the matches become increasingly more successful.

The fifth and final avenue is Love.  We at FAMCOS believe that showing individuals, youth and family members a pattern of love is the key ingredient in them obtaining success in all facets of life. We also believe that if our mentees feel that or mentors display this pattern, that they themselves will in turn demonstrate these same characteristics by giving back to their local communities.
